The scene unfolded on Wednesday, April 15 in Budapest, on the balcony of the Sándor Palace, the official residence of the Hungarian president. Beside the head of state Tamás Sulyok, Péter Magyar, winner of the recent legislative elections, was observing the view when he noticed the presence of Viktor Orbán on the balcony of a neighboring building.

In a video posted on his social media, he wonders: “Is the prime minister reading something down there?,” as Viktor Orbán appears to be looking at a document. A few moments later, Péter Magyar waves at him, before commenting: “This is big cinema.”

In the description of his Instagram post, the leader of the Tisza party extends the scene and invites his followers to guess what his rival is reading. He offers several hypotheses: “his farewell speech,” “the national sport,” or “Trump’s statement today.”

After his meeting with President Tamás Sulyok on Wednesday, Péter Magyar, winner of the Hungarian legislative elections, announced that he had asked him to resign. “I told him that, in my eyes and in the eyes of the Hungarian people, he is unworthy to embody the unity of the Hungarian nation, unable to ensure respect for the law (…),” he stated as he left the presidential palace.
