Daniele Gatti: A renowned Italian Conductor

Daniele Gatti, born in Milan in 1961, is an Italian conductor. He led the Orchestre national de France from 2008 to 2016, establishing an international career conducting prestigious orchestras worldwide, both in symphonic and operatic repertoire.

Born on November 6, 1961 in Milan, the young Daniele Gatti was introduced to music through his father’s record collection. He began studying piano, violin, and composition at the Milan Conservatory. After earning his degree, Gatti conducted several minor ensembles before moving to his first significant position in 1992: directing the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome until 1997.

Daniele Gatti had a brilliant career as a guest conductor for major orchestras like La Scala (at just 27 years old!), Covent Garden in London, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. After establishing a reputation in the field of operatic art, particularly in Italian operas, he expanded his repertoire to include symphonic music. His recording of Tchaikovsky’s Symphonies 4, 5, and 6 was well-received by critics.
