The support provided by the Army Commissariat covers various essential aspects:
– Clothing, equipment, and ballistic protection for soldiers – Accommodation and parking for the forces – Catering and food supply – Numerous local support services (personnel conditions, etc.)
“Real life” support is crucial: it allows the forces to train under conditions close to engagement, while ensuring the continuity of activities on national territory.
The Training and Maneuver Support Pole (PSEM) of the Commissariat Support Group (GSC) Mourmelon is fully integrated into the exercise and stands out thanks to its knowledge of camps and expertise in maneuvers. According to Lieutenant Colonel Étienne, head of GSC Mourmelon, “the PSEM acts as the conductor of the support provided by the army commissariat service in the ORION framework. It ensures an essential articulation at each stage of the process: design, organization, coordination, and implementation, thus guaranteeing optimal support.” Captain Ludovic, head of the PSEM of GSC Mourmelon, highlights the strategic importance of the structure: “our mission is to coordinate and ensure impeccable logistical support for the smooth running of operations.”
In terms of catering support, GSC Mourmelon supports four camps spread over an extensive area, from setting up to dismantling the mess halls. This organization allows for feeding up to 8000 soldiers, with facilities specially designed to accommodate and feed a large number of soldiers in field conditions, with meals tailored to operational needs. “Each mess hall has autonomy for menu design and ordering, allowing for quick adaptation to the specific needs of deployed troops,” specifies Captain Ludovic. The Army’s food supply department (EdA) plays a central role in this catering support by delivering a significant portion of the necessary provisions for mess hall operations. This system poses a considerable logistical challenge in terms of planning, transportation, and resource management.
