Vincent Bouget Becomes President of the Agglomeration, Defeating RN Candidate Julien Sanchez
Vincent Bouget has taken the lead. Since the victory of his list in the mayorship of Nîmes on Sunday, March 22, he has carefully met with all the mayors of the Nîmes metropolis one by one, including heavyweights and newcomers, to secure their support for his candidacy for the presidency of the Agglomeration. It quickly became clear that they were willing to work with him and none of them would present a competing candidacy.
On Tuesday, April 14, during the first community council meeting since the municipal elections, the suspense was palpable. The PCF mayor of Nîmes faced an opponent, RN candidate Julien Sanchez, whom he had defeated by a significant margin in the municipal elections. The council meeting was presided over by Monique Boissière, the assembly’s eldest member, alongside the youngest mayor, Théo Guigne, from Sauzet, who is only 24 years old.
Julien Sanchez criticized the alleged “sectarianism” of the new Nîmes administration, questioning the choice of the mayor of Sauzet over the youngest RN elected official, Titouan Thomas, who is 22 years old. Despite the opposition, Vincent Bouget garnered a majority of the votes with 74 in his favor compared to 21 for Julien Sanchez.
Vincent Bouget was then applauded as he officially took the floor at the Nîmes metropolis podium for the first time, expressing his honor and responsibility in leading the territory forward. His speech focused on leveraging the diversity of each community within the metropolis to make it stronger collectively.
He emphasized supporting local businesses, preserving water resources, and strengthening civil security, among other key priorities for his mandate as president of Nîmes metropolis. This vision is expected to unite a large portion of the Agglomeration’s council members.
