Each spring, the Californian desert transforms into a grand stage. Under the sun of Indio, tens of thousands of festival-goers flock to attend one of the most influential music events in the world: Coachella. This weekend of April 10, 2026, artists took the stage one after the other: Justin Bieber, Sabrina Carpenter, Karol G, and more. But here, the music is just the tip of the iceberg.

Between the different sets, festival-goers chain selfies with their badges around their necks and sunglasses perched on their noses. However, behind the euphoria, their bank accounts have suffered. According to the official Coachella website, a three-day pass costs between 549 and 649 dollars (between 469 and 554 euros). To access the VIP areas, one must shell out between 1199 and 1399 dollars (between 1024 and 1195 euros). And that’s just the beginning.

Traveling to the desert

Coming to Coachella often means crossing a continent. On Instagram, influencer Tahnee Cook interviewed festival-goers to ask how much they had spent. The answers are staggering. An Australian couple mentioned a total budget between 6000 and 7000 Australian dollars (around 4200 euros), including plane tickets. Another festival-goer talks about a budget between 10,000 and 15,000 dollars (around 8000 euros) for the weekend.

A few kilometers from the stages, tension also mounts on the accommodation front. According to the Desert Sun, hotel prices soar as the festival approaches, often exceeding 1000 dollars (around 800 euros) per night. Even the most modest options become scarce. The Motel 6 in North Palm Springs stood out with 395 euros per night for the first weekend (over 1200 euros for three nights, taxes included). On Airbnb, the promise of savings quickly evaporates. A TikTok user recounts spending 12,000 dollars (around 10,000 euros) for a shared house with two friends.

Temple of fashion

But at Coachella, it’s impossible to skip style. Here, every outfit is carefully thought out, photographed, and shared. The festival has become a real open-air fashion show. Figures like Vanessa Hudgens, Cara Delevingne, or Emily Ratajkowski have shaped the festival’s fashion DNA. As a result, an implicit pressure has settled in. Some festival-goers put together their looks. Others invest heavily. Influencer Sophie Rain explains that she hired a stylist to compose her outfits. The announced budget: over 5000 dollars (around 4000 euros) for a weekend, just for clothes.

Eating on-site also comes at a cost. The media The Tinder Blog estimates that participants spend about 375 dollars on food, drinks, and merchandise. While some choke on lemonade at 15 euros, a slice of pizza at 29 euros, and tacos at 86 euros.

Attending Coachella is often presented as a dream, an experience to live at least once in a lifetime. However, behind the perfect images shared on social networks, the reality is much more expensive. Between tickets, transportation, accommodation, and style, the total budget can easily exceed several thousand euros, or even reach new heights for the most exclusive experiences. Coachella is no longer just a festival: it’s a symbol of lifestyle, where music blends with luxury, sometimes at a high price.
