Handisport and adapted sports were featured on Saturday under the halle Marcadieu for a day of shared experiences. From seated volleyball to paraclimbing, technical and human adaptations reveal a more inclusive and accessible sport for everyone.

Participating in judo with blindfolds or seated volleyball, for example: under the halle Marcadieu, this Saturday, the day of sports for disabilities is always a highlight for understanding physical and sports activities through disabilities.

“The largest section in France for adapted sports”

Just next door, the climbing wall of the Roc Pyrenees club is stormed. The association has “the largest section in France for adapted sports” according to Yannick Escande, founder of the club and paraclimbing trainer, with 80 licensed out of a total of 450.

This incredible enthusiasm has encouraged the club to adapt its more attentive human approach, as well as its equipment and gear. To make it accessible to people with disabilities, and not the other way around. “To ensure the safety of overweight or severely physically disabled individuals, we use pulley systems and adjust larger and closer handholds,” explains Yannick Escande. “We work on the climber’s comfort with integral harnesses that support the upper body and protections for the knees and hands. Climbing is also an excellent mediator in therapeutic and educational projects in partnership with specialized institutions or in the healthcare and social sector.”
