The situation of Kris Wu continues to intrigue the public, several years after the major scandal of 2021 that abruptly ended his career. Once considered a prominent figure in Chinese entertainment and a former member of the group EXO, he is now serving a prison sentence following convictions for serious crimes.
According to Chinese media, rumors suggesting a deterioration in his health condition or mistreatment in detention are unfounded. Sources indicate that he is in stable condition, without any significant medical issues, and has even gained weight since his incarceration, while benefiting from regular psychological monitoring.
His daily life in prison, however, remains particularly regulated. He reportedly shares a cramped cell with other inmates, in a space where rest and hygiene areas are limited. The rules are strict: he must take cold showers year-round, and simple gestures like shaving or cutting nails require authorization and waiting time.
The former idol is currently assigned to a production chain, where he participates in the manufacturing of data cables and headphones. Since 2023, he has shown good adaptation to the carceral environment, which has allowed him to obtain a minor role among inmates, as well as some benefits, including slightly improved meals and a reduction in certain collective tasks.
In his free time, he continues to engage with music by singing and writing, an activity that contrasts with his former life as an international artist. This practice helps him pass the time in an environment now far removed from the entertainment industry.
His early days in detention reportedly were more difficult. Authorities had to monitor him continuously due to his emotional instability: he would cry, yell, and assert his innocence. Over time, he has gradually adapted to his situation, gradually giving up habits associated with his former celebrity status.
The Kris Wu case remains one of the most striking scandals in C-Biz. He was arrested in July 2021 after accusations by influencer Du Meizhu, who accused him of using his fame to lure and assault several young women, including some minors.
In 2023, he was sentenced to 13 years in prison for rape and organizing collective sexual activities. Additional charges related to tax evasion further worsened his case. At the end of his sentence, he is expected to be deported and banned from returning to China for ten years.
Once at the pinnacle of music and cinema, his name has since been removed from major Chinese platforms, in accordance with the decisions of the authorities. His journey illustrates a particularly dramatic fall in the Asian entertainment industry.
