Taratata is a cult show. Proof of this is that it continues to exist over thirty-three years after its launch. Hosted by Nagui, it has to date more than 1,500 invited artists and 4,600 performances. Among the artists revealed in the show, Stromae, who performed his hit “Alors on danse” for the first time on television in 2010. Mika, Hoshi, Selah Sue, or Brigitte also made their debuts on the show. One of the rules of the show is that the performance must be played live, without playback. These conditions have led to unique, moving, but also very embarrassing moments.

Un Chanteur Quitte la Scène pour “Aller Faire Caca”

At the helm of the show Bande Originale on Thursday, April 9th on France Inter, Nagui revealed a surprising anecdote. The host recounted having to pause his show because one of the singers had an urgent need: “I announce a group, the group starts playing, then stops, and the singer leaves the stage because he has to go poop,” he explained. And he added, “We continued after his ‘popo’, but you will understand that out of courtesy, I will not say who it is.” Finally, the host revealed that it was the lead singer of the British rock group Blur. “He was the most applauded person when he came out of the toilets. When he returned, there were 500 people giving him an ovation,” he joked.

“Nous ne nous sommes pas entendus” : Nagui Cash on His Relationship with Michel Sardou

While the show has given rise to cult memories, the magic sometimes struggled to operate. This is notably the case with Michel Sardou. On the set of “C à Vous,” Nagui recounted: “He came once to ‘Taratata,’ and I can tell you, it will not happen again. We did not really get along. I respect his career, his talent, but for me, it is important to welcome someone and genuinely mean it. I don’t think he wants to either,” he confided to Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine in October 2024. Luckily, the host could count on international stars like David Bowie, Lady Gaga, Stevie Wonder, Ed Sheeran, as well as Patti Smith, Sharleen Spiteri, Lionel Richie, Adele, Phil Collins, Ayo, 50 Cent, Lana Del Rey, Katy Perry, Alicia Keys, Sia, Jamiroquai… Even Liam Gallagher of Oasis called “Taratata” the “best music show in the world.” That’s something!
