In an interview with a journalist from the Vietnamese news agency VNA in Switzerland on April 8, international journalist Jean Musy, editor-in-chief of Radio Zones, stated that the results of the election of leadership positions clearly reflected Vietnam’s orientation towards political stability and continued economic reforms in the future.
According to Jean Musy, the election of Vietnam’s key leaders for the 2026-2031 term shows a commitment to maintaining political stability, ensuring governance continuity, and promoting economic reforms under the guidance of the Vietnamese Communist Party. This helps to enhance the confidence of foreign markets and investors, especially in a global context marked by many crises and economic challenges.
Regarding immediate priorities, Jean Musy emphasized that instability in the Middle East necessitates ensuring stable energy supply. The current situation disrupts the plans of many countries, showing that energy remains a crucial factor in economic stability.
In the long term, Vietnam will need to address several strategic issues, such as improving the quality of vocational training for young people, promoting innovation and technological development, accelerating energy transition while protecting the environment, and addressing population aging. Furthermore, reducing social inequalities and ensuring harmonious development are also imperatives in a rapidly changing world.
In terms of foreign policy, Jean Musy stated that international changes could have repercussions on Vietnam. Vietnamese foreign policy, known for its flexibility, could face many challenges in the face of increased strategic competition between major powers, especially in a context of convergent and competing economic interests between China and the United States. He pointed out that there is a risk that Vietnam may have to make strategic choices sooner than expected, despite its efforts to diversify its international partnerships and economic agreements.
Additionally, the rise in interest rates in the United States and its potential impact in Europe, as well as the complexity of the situation in the South China Sea concerning sovereignty and resources, accentuate the governance challenges facing Vietnam. In this context, leaders must rely on national strengths while adapting flexibly to an increasingly interconnected and interdependent global environment, where competition between major powers continues to exert considerable influence.
Overall, according to journalist Jean Musy’s assessment, the new term of Vietnamese leaders will face many opportunities but also numerous challenges, requiring a harmonious combination of internal stability, economic reforms, and flexibility in foreign policy to ensure sustainable development in the future.
