Spring is very early this year: it’s the perfect time to observe nature awakening by choosing the citizen science program that suits you! Tela Botanica has been involved in citizen science for about twenty years. Among the programs we lead, you will surely find one that suits you! In this article, we offer a variety of citizen science programs focusing on flora.

Finding the program that suits you When you engage in a citizen science program, it’s important to choose the one that fits your context and desires. In this summary, you will find eight citizen science programs related to flora in which Tela Botanica is involved, with elements to help you choose the program(s) that interest you.

Programs for all audiences Here are several citizen science programs for all types of audiences, regardless of your botanical knowledge: – “Sauvages de ma rue” allows city dwellers to recognize the plant species in their immediate environment. – “Observatoire des Messicoles” focuses on identifying and monitoring plants in agricultural fields – “Observatoire des Saisons” involves citizens of all ages in studying the phenology of fauna and flora to contribute to climate change research. – “Lichens GO!” aims to assess air quality by studying lichen species. – “sTREEts” invites you to survey the flora around tree bases in your street to understand how wild plants move in cities.

Programs for experienced botanists For botanists, programs like “Florilèges” and “Propage” offer opportunities to evaluate the ecological quality of meadows and characterize butterfly communities in green spaces.

In addition to these programs, you can use the “Smart’Flore” tool to create digital botanical trails and propose citizen programs around trees with “Auprès de mon Arbre.”
