The banquet organized by Le Canon français raises concerns among left-wing parties in Agen. It is organized by a company linked to billionaire Pierre-Edouard Steirin. The organizers deny any political involvement.

“We regret that a public building has been made available for this event on the eve of a crucial election for our territories. We hope that this event will take place without any trouble to public order and that it will not serve as a vector for excessive political propaganda.”

In a statement sent to our editorial staff on Thursday, March 5th, local representatives of the Ecologists, La France Insoumise, the Socialist Party, the Communist Party, and the Radical Left Party express concerns about the XXL banquet organized by Le Canon français at the Agora in Agen on the eve of the municipal elections.

“It is supported by a company partially owned by the billionaire Pierre-Edouard Steirin, known to be a fervent promoter of the far right and financier of the controversial Périclès project,” explain the left-wing parties who oppose “submarines of the far right in Lot-et-Garonne.”

“There is no link with politics”

When questioned on February 11th by our newspaper, the organizers affirm that they have “no link with politics.” “We have never had any contact with Pierre-Edouard Steirin,” stated Géraud de la Tour, co-founder of Le Canon français. “We have only dealt with his investment company Odysée Impact. It’s just a matter of capital. The bosses of Le Canon are Pierre-Alexandre [de Boisse, co-founder] and myself.”

The entrepreneur laments the political scrutiny of the events he organizes. “We are offering an event product like many others. Our theme is France, because we love our regions and our farmers. The only intention is to bring people together with simple things. It may or may not be pleasing, that’s not important. But the attacks against us are serious.”
