President Donald Trump said in a national address overnight that the United States was “close to achieving” its strategic objectives in Iran, particularly in preventing Tehran from possessing a nuclear weapon.
It was the first time the American president had addressed the nation since the start of the war in the Middle East. During the night, Donald Trump stated that the United States was “close to fulfilling” its strategic objectives in Iran, especially to prevent Tehran from having a nuclear weapon.
Donald Trump also stated that Iran will be relentlessly hit for another two to three weeks. “And tonight, I am pleased to say that these fundamental strategic objectives are close to being fulfilled,” declared the American president from the White House. “We are going to hit them extremely hard over the next two to three weeks. We will bring them back to the Stone Age, where they belong. Meanwhile, discussions continue,” he also said.
During his roughly twenty-minute address, the American president also threatened to destroy the electrical grid and more broadly all energy infrastructure if current negotiations with key representatives and leaders of the Iranian regime do not yield results quickly.
Explaining that American oil does not depend on supplies passing through Iran, Donald Trump also called on countries dependent on the Strait of Hormuz, blocked since the start of the war on February 28, to “take care of it,” while assuring that he did not want to “abandon” his allies in the Gulf countries. “Go to the strait, take control of it, protect it, use it,” declared the American president, who criticized a number of NATO-allied countries for not coming to the aid of the United States.
