King Charles III will make a state visit to the United States at the end of April to celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence and underscore the close ties between the two countries, Buckingham Palace announced on Tuesday.

This follows the state visit of American President Donald Trump to the United Kingdom in September. The event was lavish, marked by dazzling tiaras, fanfares, and a sumptuous banquet served in 200-year-old silverware. Such displays of pomp aim to strengthen ties between countries, especially in difficult times.

Mr. Trump greatly appreciates the royal family, but he has little patience for British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who has only offered defensive support to his long-standing ally in the war against Iran.

Charles has visited the United States 19 times, but this will be his first state visit to the country. His mother, Queen Elizabeth II, has made four state visits to the United States.

The king will also visit Bermuda, his first visit to this overseas territory as a monarch.
