DÉCRYPTAGE – BFMTV has regained the lead over CNews, which is on par with LCI. Together, BFMTV, CNews, LCI, and Franceinfo captured over 11% of the audience in March. A record.
The month of March reshuffled the hierarchy of news channels. Taking advantage of a hot international and political news cycle, BFMTV reclaimed the top spot from CNews. This hadn’t happened in 14 months.
With a 3.5% audience share, BFMTV surpassed its major competitor, which attracted 3.2% of viewers. Not only did CNews lose its crown, but it also finds itself challenged by LCI, which is on a comeback, sharing the second spot with CNews. The only channel unaffected by this shake-up is Franceinfo. The public broadcaster remains in last place, ending the month at 1.2%, even though it has made a 0.4-point improvement in a year. But at that time, like LCI, it was still far behind in the channel rankings, on channel 27, which it has since swapped for 16.
