First round of the Coupe de Bretagne track in Pordic
This first round of the Coupe de Bretagne on the track could never have taken place. The cause: a wet track and threatening weather above the Pordic velodrome. But the organizer, Jacques Quémard, thought of “those who traveled 300 miles to come” and maintained the event. In total, 57 participants took turns in the different races. On the program: keirin, scratch and points race.
Nahel Belhadj meets expectations
Among the U19s, Nahel Belhadj continues to confirm his status as a Breton track cycling hope. In Pordic, during the first round of the Coupe de Bretagne, the first year junior rider won with authority on a track that he appreciates. “Always a pleasure to come here to Pordic,” he said.
Already crowned champion of Brittany on the track ten times, the Costarmorican continues his progress. Two weeks ago, he distinguished himself at the national level by taking third place in the 500 meters standing start during a round of the Coupe de France. “I didn’t expect to perform at the national level because I started again not very long ago,” he admitted. An encouraging result: “It surprised me to get these results, it gives me confidence and restores morale.” At Pordic, Belhadj demonstrated tactical intelligence. “Given the conditions, we had to let it happen and show off less,” he analyzed. A profitable strategy for those who now have high ambitions: “I’m aiming for top 5s internationally on the track and the jerseys for the France of the future at the end of the year.”
