Ligue 1 returns to international heights

In a press release published this Friday, the Professional Football League announced that international audiences for Ligue 1 have reached their highest level since 2022, the year of the World Cup in Qatar. According to figures communicated by the body, the cumulative audience for the 2025-2026 season amounts to 520 million viewers. This represents an increase of 28% compared to the previous year.

A season full of twists and turns

The LFP explains this dynamic in particular by the intensity of the past season. Between a new title for PSG, the presence of the Ballon d’Or Ousmane Dembélé, the remarkable performance of RC Lens, the fight for European places until the final days and the maintenance obtained by Nice at the end of the season, the championship offered a particularly lively scenario. These different sporting issues have helped to strengthen the interest of viewers around the world. The growth observed is also supported by several strategic markets. In Brazil, audiences jumped 281% over one year. The LFP attributes this increase in particular to the presence of Endrick within theOlympique Lyonnaisa factor which strengthened the exposure of the French championship to the Brazilian public.

China confirms its importance

Another major market for Ligue 1, China recorded a record overall audience of 93 million viewers, an increase of 12%. The League justifies these results by the solidity of its partnerships with CCTV and Migu, two broadcasters considered essential in its international development strategy. The 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season will begin on August 23, 2026, a little over a month after the 2026 World Cup final. The championship will end on May 29, 2027.
