Russian President Vladimir Putin dodged a question on Thursday about a possible stay in power until 2036, saying it was still too early to broach the subject and asserting that, in any case, “God only knows” if he will then be in good health.
Questioned by the British agency Reuters In Saint Petersburg, during a meeting with heads of major press agencies, on his ability to remain in office until 2036 and on his endurance, the Russian head of state responded by evading the subject. “Only God knows if we will have enough health – for me, for you and for everyone who is here – to live until tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, and even more so to accomplish the tasks that await us and achieve the goals that we have set for ourselves.”he slipped.

In power as president or prime minister since 1999, Vladimir Putin recalled that the Constitution would allow him to run again in 2030 and, in the event of victory, to remain in office until 2036. “Indeed, the Constitution allows me to present myself in 2030, but I think it is too early to talk about it. Truth be told, it’s much too early. I’m not thinking about it at all at the moment. I am completely honest”he insisted. And to add that Russia “faces many important and far-reaching issues that need to be addressed without thinking about them, but focusing on the future of the country.”
