This is a first in Brittany. The town of Pléneuf-Val-André, already accustomed to distinctions, has just obtained a label of a completely different scope: the international Green Destinations label at Silver level. Created in the Netherlands and recognized worldwide, this label distinguishes tourist destinations engaged in a demanding approach to sustainable development.
“No less than 280 criteria were scrutinized, covering areas as varied as the environment, the quality of life of residents, heritage and even mobility,” explains Vincent Lucas, director of the tourist office. The municipality was also involved in the process: “The city’s services were audited, and this preparatory work lasted several months,” specifies Jean-Luc Torche, communications assistant.
A network of 130 destinations
With this distinction, Pléneuf-Val-André joins a network of 130 committed destinations around the world and becomes the 19th French resort to be rewarded. The label is recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), an international reference in sustainable tourism.
For the mayor, Pierre-Alexis Blévin, this recognition “confirms the municipality’s desire to build a tourist model that respects its environment.” However, the label is not definitively acquired: the station will be audited every two years and must demonstrate its progress towards a higher level. “All our partners will also have to get involved in this dynamic,” underlines Vincent Lucas.
