The kosher restaurant Mutra, located in Miami, made gastronomy history by becoming the first kosher establishment in the world to receive a star from the prestigious Michelin Guide.
This distinction, announced Thursday, rewards the work of Israeli chef Raz Shabtai, who opened the establishment only a year ago. Inspired by the culinary traditions of the different communities that have shaped Jerusalem, its cuisine revisits the flavors of the Middle East with a contemporary and creative approach.
The Michelin Guide also highlighted the exceptional nature of this award: Mutra is the first restaurant in the world to receive a new Michelin star in 2026.
“We have always believed that kosher gastronomy deserves the same ambition and creativity as the world’s greatest restaurants,†Raz Shabtai said after the announcement.
The chef also paid homage to his Israeli roots. “Growing up in Jerusalem, I was surrounded by flavors, spices and dishes that told stories. I wanted to convey that same emotion here, not only to the local Jewish community, but to all of South Florida,” he explained.
For Mutra, this Michelin star represents much more than an individual accolade: it opens a new page for kosher haute cuisine and confirms that tradition, excellence and innovation can now assert themselves at the highest level of international gastronomy.
