Vietnam has proven itself to be a nation not only resilient in the face of war, but also courageous in terms of innovation, and above all driven by an ambitious vision: to become a developed industrial nation over the next two decades.
Vietnam’s constancy and coherence in implementing its foreign policy, as well as in realizing its vision of regional and international issues, are highly appreciated by the international community and are considered a remarkable point of reference for addressing and meeting challenges. current challenges.
This is the assessment of Professor Vu Minh Khuong of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (National University of Singapore) and Dr Mohamed Effendy B Abdul Hamid, lecturer at the National University of Singapore, in an interview with a VNA reporter in Singapore on the occasion of the state visit of Secretary-General and President To Lam in Singapore and his opening speech at the 23rd Shangri-La Dialogue.
According to Professor Vu Minh Khuong, the anticipation and warm reception reserved for Secretary General and President To Lam’s speech are not the result of chance. During the war, Vietnam demonstrated resilience and steadfastness. During the period of reforms, he demonstrated his courage. In this era of development, Vietnam is responsible and bears an ambitious vision.
Professor Vu Minh Khuong believes that Vietnam in general, and Secretary General and President To Lam in particular, have made a strong impression on the world in two respects.
First of all, Vietnam is resolutely committed to its policy of peace, cooperation and prosperity, and shares a common vision for the future. In particular, he has the ability to transform his enemies into friends, to ease tensions and to demonstrate exceptional dynamism. The meeting between Secretary-General and President To Lam and US President Donald Trump at the White House last February, as well as his state visit to China in April after his election, demonstrate the proactivity and flexibility demonstrated by Vietnam in the implementation of its foreign policy.
According to Professor Vu Minh Khuong, in the context of increasingly complex global geopolitics, maintaining harmonious relations with major powers is one of the most difficult challenges today, and Vietnam is considered a remarkable model of a balanced approach in international relations.
Second, Vietnam always balances the country’s interests with the common good, for the stability of the region and the world, and together we can move forward into the future.
Professor Vu Minh Khuong said Vietnam has always exerted a positive influence, helping countries come closer together and thus becoming an increasingly important component of the global ecosystem.
Sharing the same view, Dr Mohamed Effendy B Abdul Hamid, lecturer at the National University of Singapore, believes that the international community greatly appreciates Vietnam’s firmness and consistency in implementing its foreign policy, as they have were expressed in the messages sent by Secretary General and President To Lam.
Dr. Abdul Hamid believes that during this year’s Shangri-La Dialogue, Secretary-General and President To Lam further clarified Vietnam’s vision on international and regional issues.
From the perspective of a Southeast Asian scholar, Dr. Abdul Hamid observes that the current period is particularly notable as the international community places high expectations on Vietnam amid complex global geopolitical developments, and considers Vietnam’s approach a valuable reference point for addressing and solve today’s new challenges.
