Young Guyanese dancers Djahlia Cléry and Jeanne Cespedes won joint first prize at the 123 Dance Festival last weekend in Courbevoie.

Djahlia Cléry and Jeanne Cespedes, from the Cayenne association Mo’Dans’Co and students at the Conservatory of Music, Dance and Theater of Guyana (CMDTG), won a first prize last Saturday tied for elementary jazz / modern jazz duo at the 123 Dance Festival in Courbevoie. A competition like no other: the 123 Dance Festival rewards only one podium per category and has an international dimension.

A new cup in the suitcase

The duo was not in their first event of the season. Djahlia and Jeanne were among the nine Mo’Dans’Co dancers entered a few days earlier at the CND national competition in Bordeaux.

They owe their presence in Courbevoie to their victory obtained in June 2025 during the URBANSTEP competition organized in Guyana, which opened the doors to the international festival. Two major competitions linked together over a very short period, with all the physical and mental demands that this implies.

Behind the scenes, they showed a lot of concentration and real solidarity “, says Cynthia Egalgi, president of Mo’Dans’Co. “ The moment of the results was very moving.

For a first participation in the 123 Dance Festival, the bar is set high.

The next step is to continue to support young dancers in their artistic evolution. “, concludes Cynthia Egalgi. As for Djahlia and Jeanne, they continue their journey with, now, one more international podium in their baggage.
