The American studio Amazon MGM announced on Wednesday that it had approved the production of three television series for children as part of a new fund intended to encourage creators to integrate AI into the production of cinematic content.
Called GenAI Creators’ Fund, this program aims to provide filmmakers and creators with technological tools allowing them to design projects within very short deadlines.
Three children’s series have already received the green light in the space of about two months: “Punky Duck”, by Mexican director Jorge Gutiérrez, “Diana Music Hunters”, by Albie Hecht, and “Cupcake & Friends”, from BuzzFeed Studios. The process is considered “revolutionary” by their creators.
“I started on March 7 and today we are already approved,” said Jorge Gutiérrez, who explains that he usually spends up to two years developing a pilot episode.
Anxieties
“The best way to describe it? It’s like having sex and someone hands you the baby straight away. It’s completely crazy,” he continues.
The announcement, made during the largest annual conference dedicated to the impact of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in the film industry, did not fail to arouse concern in Hollywood, where actors, screenwriters and creators fear being replaced by AI.
The director of AI Studios at Amazon MGM Studios, Albert Cheng, estimated that this technique, far from eliminating jobs, could on the contrary create more. By reducing costs and production times, it would, according to him, make it possible to increase the number of projects and therefore opportunities.
The manager nevertheless recognized the limits of this technique, calling it “addictive”, and called on creators to remain vigilant. “We must be careful not to give in to the easy way out or let our brains atrophy, but continue to think critically about how we want to create,” he concluded.
