Coalitions to promote the rights of LGBT+ peopleÂ
In 2016, the Equal Rights Coalition, which brings together 45 states from different continents, was formed to coordinate international efforts in favor of the rights of LGBT+ people. The Coalition held its last conference in Berlin on December 17-18, 2024. It is currently co-chaired by Spain and Colombia. France takes an active part in it.
Within the United Nations, in New York and Geneva, the countries most committed to this issue consult regularly to develop common positions and plead, together, for greater consideration of the protection of LGBT+ people in multilateral forums.
Within the EU, exchanges between states with affinity for the rule of law and fundamental rights are regularly undertaken on this subject. Additionally, an LGBTIQ subgroup, from the EU High Level Group against Hate Crime and Speech, was established in 2021 and now meets regularly.
