HUG enters the world’s top 20 in Newsweek’s 2026 rankings

HUG is now among the 20 best hospitals in the world according to the Newsweek rankings World’s Best Hospitals of 2026. The progression of 34 places in one year to reach 19e world rank confirms the institution’s commitment to the quality and safety of care.

At the European level, the HUG is positioned at 8e rang.

International recognition based on demanding criteria

Published by American magazine Newsweek in partnership with the data institute Statista, the ranking evaluates more than 2,500 hospitals in 32 countries.

The analysis is based on a methodology which integrates:

  • the recommendations of thousands of health professionals surveyed around the world
  • indicators relating to the quality and safety of care
  • THE Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs), in other words: the experience reported by the patients themselves.

This approach makes it possible to measure not only clinical reputation but also the concrete impact of care on the quality of life of patients.

A dynamic of continuous progress

This entry into the world top-20 is part of a trajectory of constant progression – observed in recent years through the rankings Newsweek des hôpitaux spécialisés (Best Specialized Hospitals) and the best hospitals in terms of digital innovation (Best Smart Hospitals). Three years after being among the 100 best establishments in the world, this latest ranking confirms the trajectory undertaken and the ambition of HUG to maintain a level of excellence meeting the highest international standards.
