“We will definitely participate in the 2026 World Cup, but the host countries must take our concerns into account,” declared the Iranian federation. “We will participate in the tournament but without renouncing our beliefs, our culture and our convictions”, affirming that “no external power can deprive Iran of its participation in a competition for which it qualified with merit”.

Tehran set 10 conditions for participating in the event. These conditions include the granting of visas and respect for staff, the Iranian flag and the national anthem. Tehran also requires a high level of security in airports, hotels and on routes leading to stadiums where the team will play.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio assured that Iranian footballers would be welcome, but warned that the United States could deny entry to some members of the Iranian delegation with links to the Revolutionary Guards, also classified as a terrorist organization by Washington.
Iran, scheduled to be based in Tucson, Arizona, will face New Zealand, Belgium (June 21) and Egypt in Group G.
