Iran’s stocks of missiles and drones are “sufficient to sustain years of war”, a senior Iranian parliamentary official said on Wednesday in an interview with the semi-official Tasnim agency.

Referring to regional dynamics, he stressed that the Strait of Bab el-Mandeb, connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden, has a strategic importance comparable to that of the Strait of Hormuz, believing that developments in this area could also affect maritime routes.

The Iranian official also affirmed that Iran would not give up what it considers to be its sovereign rights over the Strait of Hormuz, specifying that these questions would be addressed within the framework of the negotiations.

Speaking at a public rally in the southern town of Minab on Tuesday, he warned that if the United States took military action, the IRGC Navy would deploy advanced targeting systems and new operational capabilities.

He indicated that these means could be used against large military ships in the region.

A ceasefire was announced on April 8 thanks to Pakistani mediation, followed by discussions held in Islamabad on April 11 and 12, without leading to an agreement.
