Pablo Matéo doesn’t have much time to procrastinate at the start of the outdoor season! The resident of AC Lisses will participate at the world relay championships les 2 et 3 mai à Gaborone (Botswana).
For this competition, the Essonne sprinter will be present in the group of 4 to 100 meters men and 4 to 100 meters mixed, in the company of Mohammed Badru (Caen Athletic Club), Just Kwaou-Mathey (Évreux AC), Lenny Chanteur (S/l ESME US Deuil), Aymeric Priam (CA Montreuil), Théo Schaub (S/l AC Illzach Kingersheim), as well as Guadeloupean Ylann Bizasene (Stade Lamentinois).

“I want to run as fast as possible and win medalsâ€

“It has now been twelve years old that I do competitive athletics. Before that, I rather had a career in football, with stints in the clubs of Corbeil-Essonnes, Lisses and Évry-Courcouronnes,” explains the reigning French champion in the 60 meters indoor, a title he won at the end of winter in Aubière (Puy-de-Dôme).

“I had a good indoor season. However, I expected to do better on the international stage. This remains motivating for the future,” adds the Liss athlete.

Pablo Matéo in no way regrets his choice of favoring athletics tracks over football fields. “In this sport, I like the discipline that is instilled. There is also a lot of work on the mental level. It is also a thankless sport, with a lot of sacrifices for results that do not always live up to expectations. However, it builds the mind and the personality » confides the man who is determined to carry the colors of the national selection high for the third time during a relay world championship.

“The objective is to qualify the French team, both for men and in the mixed relay, for the European Championships in Birmingham, then for the next world championships. We did an internship in Mauritius just before this competition in order to work on certain automatisms,” explains the 100 and 200 meter specialist, while setting his individual ambitions for the rest of the season: “It’s simple, I want to run as fast as possible and win medals.
