The army general Saïd Chanegriha, delegate minister to the Minister of National Defense, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), chaired the opening of a national seminar titled “The Algerian Approach to Peace and Security in Africa” at the National Army Circle in Beni Messous (Algiers) on Monday, according to a statement from the Ministry of National Defense (MDN).

The seminar was attended by the Prime Minister, the Secretary General of the Presidential Palace, several government members and advisors, army generals, and other officials.

During the seminar, the army general highlighted that security crises in Africa are no longer just internal issues but have been influenced by external agendas, turning some African crises into arenas for power struggles and influence. This complex landscape is further complicated in geopolitically sensitive zones.

The Algerian approach outlined in the seminar aligns with the major tenets of Algerian foreign policy, particularly its African dimension. It aims to define a clear and coherent proposal for peace and security architecture in Africa based on principles and a comprehensive vision of African relations.

Algeria emphasizes the need for African states to enhance their national power foundations and sovereignty to collectively contribute to building a peaceful and stable African space based on mutual respect, solidarity, and mutually beneficial interstate relations rather than dependence or subordination.

The official activities of the seminar were officially opened, followed by conferences addressing the various security challenges facing Africa and the Algerian proposal for peace and security architecture on the continent. The discussions and contributions of professors and officials enriched the seminar’s activities and recommendations.
