“On Friday it will be completely open.” Donald Trump assured, this Monday, of a complete end to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, an essential artery for global trade in crude oil. “The strait is already partially open, as you know,” declared the United States president in Evian for the G7 summit, the day after the announcement of a framework of agreement between the United States and Iran to end the war.

“Ships, some loaded with oil, are starting to leave the Strait of Hormuz. They are sailing along (a road) that is completely secure,” he wrote on his Truth Social network. Its vice-president JD Vance told CNBC on Monday that the United States expected Iran not to impose a toll on this strategic route of world trade. For its part, Iranian diplomacy mentioned “maritime service costs”.

Vance also optimistic about a total reopening

Vice President Vance was asked whether the Strait of Hormuz would reopen without tolls for the 60 days of negotiations that are due to begin soon or for longer. “We expect the strait to be reopened without tolls in the long term,” he replied. That’s the kind of thing we’re going to address in these technical negotiations.”

The US vice-president is expected in Switzerland on Friday for an official signing ceremony of the agreement framework. Without Donald Trump a priori, who affirmed that he would “probably have left” Europe before. The signing has, however, already been carried out remotely and electronically by Donald Trump, JD Vance, as well as the President of the Iranian Parliament and main negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, a senior American official announced on Monday.
