20,000 IRANIANS DEPRIVATE OF WATER AFTER US STRIKES

Some 20,000 people no longer have access to drinking water in Sirik, a port city in southern Iran, after American bombings on two reservoirs, Iranian state television said on Wednesday.

“With temperatures oscillating between 45 and 50 degrees, conditions are extremely difficult” for them, said an official from the local water company, according to state television.

DISCUSSIONS “DETERMINED” BY THE STRIKES

Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Wednesday that the United States had undermined ongoing diplomatic efforts to end the war, following new US strikes against targets in southern Iran.

“Unfortunately, the United States is harming this diplomatic process by the contradictory messages it sends, its repeated changes of position and demands and, worse still, its repeated violations of the ceasefire,” declared the spokesperson for Iranian diplomacy, Esmaïl Baghaï, in a message video relayed by Iranian media. “Every diplomatic process is undermined by the use of force and illegal actions on the ground,” he added.

RUSSIA CALLS FOR “RESTRAINT”

Russia is “extremely concerned” by the new escalation of tensions in the Middle East and calls for “restraint”, declared the spokesperson for Russian diplomacy, Maria Zakharova. “We call on the parties to restraint and an immediate cessation of armed attacks,” she stressed, after Iran’s announcement that it had targeted American bases in the Gulf in retaliation for Washington’s strikes against Iranian targets along the Strait of Hormuz.

PÉKIN “PROFONDÉMENT PRÉOCCUPÉ”

Beijing said on Wednesday it was “deeply concerned” by the American and Iranian strikes in the Middle East and called on the different camps to “stop the escalation of the situation”.

“The parties concerned should show calm and restraint, stop escalating the conflict and take concrete measures to ease tensions,” assured a spokesperson for Chinese Foreign Affairs, Lin Jian, during a regular press briefing. He called for “a global and lasting ceasefire as quickly as possible”.

CALL TO EVACUATE IN SOUTH LEBANON

Tashal issued this Wednesday morning a new evacuation warning for residents of the localities of Houmin El Faouqa, Ghassaniyeh and Ansariyeh, located north of the city of Tyre.

The Israeli army warns that it is preparing to act against Hezbollah targets, which it accuses of having violated the ceasefire.

JORDAN SHOTS DOWN FIVE IRANIAN MISSILES

The Jordanian army announced Wednesday morning that it had destroyed five Iranian missiles which targeted Azraq, where an American base is located.

“We intercepted and shot down five missiles fired from Iran towards Azraq (…) There were no casualties or material damage,” the army said.

Earlier, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards had said they had targeted “an air base and the American military command center” in Azraq in Jordan, according to Iranian state media.

TEHRAN ACCUSES GULF COUNTRIES

Tehran reaffirmed on Wednesday “the legal and moral responsibility of all countries in the region (…) to prevent the American army and Israel from using their territory or their installations to plan, organize, execute or support hostile actions against Iran”, in a press release.

The ministry warned that Iran “would not hesitate to exercise its inherent right to self-defense” by targeting in particular the bases and logistical installations used for operations against Iran.

TEHRAN REPLIES AFTER US STRIKES ON IRAN

Iran announced on Wednesday that it had targeted American bases in the Gulf in retaliation for Washington’s strikes against Iranian targets along the Strait of Hormuz, in a new regional conflagration after the destruction of an American helicopter attributed to Tehran.

American President Donald Trump assured Tuesday morning that he was close to a “very, very good agreement” to end the hostilities that began on February 28, citing a delay of “two to three days”. But that optimism was dampened later in the day when he announced that a US Apache helicopter had been shot down by Iran and promised an appropriate response.
