The American president mentioned the Iranian supreme guide who has still not appeared publicly since his appointment following the death of his father at the end of February.
Donald Trump declared on Wednesday June 3 that he “would like to meet” Mojtaba Khamenei, considering in an interview with the New York Post that the Iranian supreme guide was really “involved” in Tehran’s decisions.
“I would love to meet him. I would love to meet everyone and we will probably meet, depending on what happens,” he added as the United States and Iran accuse each other of violating an increasingly fragile ceasefire.
The Iranians “have a lot of respect for him,” added the American president. The new guide has still not appeared publicly in Iran since his appointment following the death of his father in American-Israeli bombings at the end of February.

On Tuesday, the head of American diplomacy declared that the United States considered Mojtaba Khamenei as “alive” and “increasingly involved” in the leadership of the Islamic Republic.
“There are signs that show that he is becoming more and more involved at a certain level, even if all his communications have been in writing and through third parties,” Marco Rubio told the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, emphasizing the difficulty of getting messages across within the Iranian government.
In his interview Donald Trump also confirmed having discussed with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the Israeli attacks on Lebanon, which endanger the ongoing ceasefire in the Middle East.
“I was a little disturbed by the fact that he was constantly fighting with Lebanon. At one point, I said: ‘Bibi, we have to stop this,'” he explained.
