Colonel Ayub Kayuf, of Druze origin, officially took command of the Golani brigade on Wednesday during a ceremony at Beaufort Castle in southern Lebanon, succeeding Colonel Adi Gonen at the head of one of the IDF’s main infantry brigades.
Prior to this appointment, Ayub Kayuf held several senior positions in the Israeli army. He notably commanded the elite Shaldag unit of the Air Force, the Menashe regional brigade in Judea and Samaria, as well as the operations department of the IDF Operations Directorate.
The ceremony took place just days after the capture of Beaufort Castle by forces of the Golani Brigade. Situated on a commanding position in southern Lebanon, this medieval fortress is considered a strategic site due to its view of a large area of the Israeli-Lebanese border.
At the same time, the terrorist organization Hezbollah broadcast a video filmed by an FPV drone equipped with a night vision camera, showing a flight over Beaufort Castle. According to the group, the images were recorded on Monday. However, no presence of Israeli soldiers is visible in the published sequence.
