Powerful and repeated explosions. Thick columns of smoke. The oil terminal in Saint Petersburg (Russia) was attacked on Wednesday June 3 by a swarm of Ukrainian drones. A Russian soldier tries to shoot one of them, in vain.

It is the second city in the country which is hit, far from the front line. The timing of this operation owes nothing to chance: the day after a massive attack by Russia against Ukraine and especially the day of the opening of the St. Petersburg Economic Forum. This annual meeting is a showcase for the country. It welcomes 20,000 people from 130 different countries. The guests go to the forum, with smoke rising into the city sky behind them.

The Ukrainian president welcomed this operation on social networks. “The distance from the border of Ukraine to this Russian oil industry facility, which is used in their war, is approximately 1,100 kilometers. […] I thank our warriors for their precision“, writes Volodymyr Zelensky. Vladimir Putin himself is expected at the forum on Friday June 5 to give a speech.

Furthermore, the Ukrainian army released a propaganda video. It claims to have struck a Russian naval base near Saint Petersburg. And in Donbass, occupied by the Russian army, a bus was targeted. They were going to Crimea. Seven people died, eleven others were injured. They were civilians, according to local pro-Russian authorities.
