Within the ministry, the Commission plays an essential role in this system. A joint service responsible for supporting the forces, it intervenes in concrete areas essential to the life and efficiency of the military: catering, logistics, administration, infrastructure management and even mobility. The missions offered by the Commissariat allow national service conscripts to discover these support professions, which are essential to the proper functioning of the armed forces.

The positions offered in this framework offer the opportunity to develop useful and recognized professional skills, while participating in a mission of general interest in the service of the Nation. Whether supporting restoration, contributing to logistical activities, maintaining military spaces or participating in conduct and support functions, each mission directly participates in supporting the forces.

Whether for a gap year or to start your professional career, the national service offers 1 month of training and 9 months of mission to learn, progress and reveal your potential. Develop recognized skills and have an experience that really matters for the rest of your career.

1. Missions and jobs within the Armed Forces Commission

The Armed Forces Commission is offering 180 positions to be filled from September 2026 in the key areas of its daily action:

  • Catering – hospitality (with or without diploma): cook, versatile catering agent, versatile hotel agent.
  • Logistics (with or without diploma): warehousing function operator, road driver.
  • Maintenance of exterior spaces (with or without diploma): maintenance agent for exterior spaces.
  • Soutien administratif général (à partir du bac) : agent d’administration.
  • Aspiring volunteer in the Armed Forces Commission (from bac +3): piloting and performance.

180 positions to be filled from September 2026

In the areas of catering – hospitality, logistics, maintenance of outdoor spaces, general administrative support, management – performance.

2. National service in brief

National service is a voluntary and selective military commitment in the service of the Nation. Open to French men and women aged 18 to 25, it allows them to serve for ten months in the armies, in concrete missions useful to national defense.

  • Duration of service: 10 months, including one month of initial military training.
  • Public concerned: 80% of 18 – 19 year olds and 20% of 20 – 25 year olds, on a voluntary basis.
  • Status: military service, mixed, voluntary and selective (none compulsory).
  • Territories of assignment: missions only on the national territory, in mainland France. No departure on external operations or in conflict zones.
  • Material benefits:
    • balance of at least €800 gross per month (excluding any bonuses);
    • SNCF “military” card with 75% reduction on national lines;
    • Free food and accommodation for the duration of the service.

3. Where and how to apply for national service?

Several ways are possible to submit your application: online directly to the armed forces, to an Armed Forces Information and Recruitment Center (CIRFA) near you, via a dedicated number or following the information transmitted during the defense day and citizenship renamed mobilization day.
