The Lebanese embassy in the United States indicated this Monday, June 1, that Hezbollah had accepted an American proposal aimed at establishing a “mutual cessation of attacks” with Israel.
In a press release relayed by the Lebanese presidency, it states that “the Lebanese authorities have received confirmation of Hezbollah’s acceptance of the American proposal providing for a mutual cessation of attacks”.
According to this text, “Israeli strikes on Dahiyeh”, the southern suburb of Beirut considered a Hezbollah stronghold, “would cease in exchange for Hezbollah’s commitment to refrain from launching attacks against Israel”. The envisaged system would also provide for an expansion of the framework of the ceasefire to the entire Lebanese territory.
This announcement comes after a new rise in tensions between Israel and the pro-Iranian movement. The Israeli army, which claims to want to “crush” Hezbollah, called on Monday to evacuate the southern suburbs of Beirut, threatening to strike the area.
Donald Trump claims to have obtained guarantees from both camps
A few hours earlier, Donald Trump assured that he had obtained appeasement commitments from Israel and Hezbollah.
On his Truth Social network, the American president claimed to have had a “very productive” interview with Benjamin Netanyahu. According to him, the Israeli Prime Minister would have undertaken not to send troops to Beirut.
“There will be no troops in Beirut and all the troops that were on their way to Beirut have already turned around,” Donald Trump wrote. The American president also spoke of “very good” exchanges with Hezbollah through mediators. He assured that the Shiite movement would “totally cease fire”.
Israel will not attack them and they will not attack Israel.

In another message published on Truth Social, Donald Trump also affirmed that “discussions continue at a rapid pace with the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
A statement which contradicts information from the Iranian agency Tasnim, according to which Tehran has suspended indirect dialogue with Washington due to the Israeli offensive in Lebanon.
Netanyahu maintains threat of strikes on Beirut in case of Hezbollah attack
For his part, Benjamin Netanyahu reaffirmed his line of firmness this Monday, June 1. The Israeli Prime Minister said he had warned the American president that Israel would continue to strike Beirut in the event of Hezbollah attacks against Israeli targets.
“I spoke this evening with President Trump and told him that if Hezbollah does not stop attacking our cities and our citizens, Israel will strike terrorist targets in Beirut,” Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement.
“Our position on this remains unchanged,” he insisted, adding that the Israeli army “continues[a] to operate as planned in southern Lebanon”.
