Naïm Qassem pleads for a possible agreement between Tehran and Washington to extend to the Lebanese aspect, while hostilities continue between Israel and Hezbollah despite the truce.

“God willing, this deal will be finalized.” The leader of Hezbollah, Naïm Qassem, said he hoped, on Sunday May 24, that the United States and Iran, which supports the Lebanese movement, would reach an agreement for a lasting end to the conflict in the Middle East, and that the Lebanese aspect would be included. “Consequently, we too will be among those included in this agreement”he declared in a televised speech, in reference to Israel which continues strikes in Lebanon despite a cease-fire.

  • Donald Trump temporise. “I have asked my representatives not to rush to reach an agreement, because time is on our side”wrote the American president on his Truth Social platform, while the Americans and Iranians have been saying for several days that they are seeking to finalize a compromise. “The negotiations are taking place in an orderly and constructive manner”he assured, adding that the American blockade of Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz would remain “in full force and effect until an agreement is reached, certified and signed”.
  • New strikes in Lebanondespite the current truce. The Israeli army called for the evacuation of 11 localities in the south and east of Lebanon, before attacks against the pro-Iranian Hezbollah, which notably fired rockets at Israeli soldiers operating in Lebanese territory. Earlier in the day, the Lebanese civil defense announced that its center in Nabatiyé, in the south of the country, had been destroyed by an Israeli strike. On Saturday, an Israeli strike in the district of Nabatiyé left 11 dead, including six women and a child, according to the Lebanese authorities, who denounced a “massacre”.
