Pakistani army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir arrived in Tehran on Friday as part of ongoing mediation efforts aimed at ending the war that began on February 28, when Israel and the United States launched military strikes against Iran.

Field Marshal Asim Munir arrived in Tehran as part of ongoing mediation efforts, Iran’s official IRNA news agency reported, citing the Pakistani army.

“Upon his arrival, he was warmly welcomed by the Iranian Interior Minister, Eskandar Momeni,” she added.

“Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was also present at the reception,” according to the agency.

This is the second such visit to Tehran for Munir, as part of Pakistan’s mediation efforts to end the war that began on February 28, when Israel and the United States launched military strikes against Iran.

According to Pakistani sources, Munir will discuss Iran-US talks, regional peace and stability, and other “important issues” during his visit.

The sources did not specify the duration of the visit.

Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has been in Tehran for two days as part of indirect discussions between Washington and Tehran.

Munir had already visited Tehran for three days last month, where he met Iranian civilian and military officials.

The Pakistani army chief then held separate meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, as well as with the commander of the forces’ central headquarters Khatam al-Anbiya Iranian armies, General Ali Abdollahi.

Munir is directly involved in mediation between Washington and Tehran in order to definitively end the war.

The mediation began when Pakistan achieved a ceasefire on April 8, ending hostilities, before hosting the highest talks between the United States and Iran since 1979, on April 11-12.

Islamabad has stepped up its mediation efforts to secure a second round of direct negotiations between the two sides.
