Invited on the set of BFMTV-RMC this Wednesday, Jean-Paul Paloméros, former chief of staff of the Air Force, declared that “it is likely that the war will restart” in the Middle East. A ceasefire has been imposed there for a month by Donald Trump, but the attacks are still ongoing.

“We must not suffer. Suffering is terrible. We must be proactive, in one way or another. On the diplomatic level, on the military level… I believe that we must not let Iran breathe,” says Jean-Paul Paloméros.

“This is why I am not at all convinced by the ceasefire, as it was initiated, because it was declared unilaterally by the Americans,” he said.

A “change of attitude”

The former chief of staff also returned to the best posture to adopt towards Iran. “We must do everything to bring Iran back to a sort of understanding and change of attitude,” indicates Jean-Paul Paloméros.

And added: “For me, it involves a change of regime and therefore probably war.”

He then assures that a “clear alternative” is now emerging: “either we let Iran develop and continue to kill its own people and dominate the region, or we say that it is over”.

No compromise

Several weeks after the announcement of a ceasefire by the United States, the shadow of a new escalation of the war hangs over the Middle East.

While France and the United Kingdom are preparing for a defensive mission to ensure traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, the Americans have said they are ready to take up arms again in the event of a breakdown of the ceasefire by launching a new mission called “Iron Hammer”.

Iran also ruled out any compromise after the rejection of its proposal by Donald Trump. “Any other approach would be unsuccessful,” said the Islamic Republic’s chief negotiator.
