At around 9 pm on Monday, May 18th, firefighters were called to an intervention in the 8th arrondissement. On Professor Tavernier Street, near the United States market, three individuals were on the ground.
According to our information, two shooters reportedly opened fire a few minutes earlier.
Uncertain Circumstances
According to Le Progrès, the three victims were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. They were hospitalized last night and operated on shortly after. All of them have a criminal record, but at least one of them has a history and may be a collateral victim, according to testimonies gathered this Tuesday morning.
Additionally, the two shooters, who fled on a scooter, used a Kalashnikov-type assault rifle.
The circumstances remain unclear for now. The area is plagued by drug trafficking, but it is not confirmed whether the shots are related to the numerous violence incidents that have been occurring in the Lyon region for several weeks.
The Lyon public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation to shed light on the exact circumstances of the shooting.
