The files published online on Friday, May 8, concerning unidentified abnormal phenomena, also known as UFOs, will be gradually released “in the interest of total transparency”, the Pentagon stated. This release allows the general public to “form their own opinion on the information contained in these files”, the Pentagon added.
The files include government documents dating back to the 1940s, images taken during lunar missions, astronaut transcripts, eyewitness testimonies, newspaper clippings, as well as videos and depictions of unexplained moving objects. Most of the files predate this year, although a video showing unidentified aircraft flying in an undisclosed location is dated January.
Here are some images taken from these 160 documents published on a dedicated page on the Pentagon’s website.
In a statement, Trump described ordering the release of these files as a “privilege”, saying they are “tied to extraterrestrial and alien life, unidentified aerial phenomena, and unidentified flying objects”.
