The operation is over. Israeli airstrikes killed ten people in four locations in southern Lebanon on Friday, according to the Ministry of Health. Among the dead were two children and three women, as reported by the Lebanese ministry. The civil defense also announced the death of one of its rescue workers in a strike in southern Lebanon. Meanwhile, Hezbollah stated in a Friday statement that they had once again attacked a military base near the city of Nahariya in northern Israel with “a volley of sophisticated missiles.”
The United States is awaiting Iran’s response. Washington has submitted its latest agreement proposal to Tehran in order to permanently end the war in the Middle East, despite mutual accusations of attacks during the night while the ceasefire was in place. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said they are waiting for a response from the Iranians “later today.” He also warned that Iran must not control the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic passageway for oil that has disrupted the global economy since the beginning of the war on February 28.
The United States has targeted two Iranian tankers. An American plane “disabled the two tankers by firing precision munitions into their engines,” preventing them from entering Iran, as announced by the US Central Command in a statement on the social network X. These ships were attempting to reach an Iranian port in the Gulf of Oman, “in violation of the ongoing American blockade.”
Iran accuses the US of a “blatant violation” of the ceasefire. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei denounced the US military action on Thursday as a clear breach of international law and the ceasefire. The United States claimed to have “targeted Iranian military installations” after several of their ships were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Iranian army claims to have seized an oil tanker in the Sea of Oman. The Iranian Navy said they intercepted the Ocean Koi tanker carrying Iranian oil in a planned operation in the Sea of Oman. The ship was redirected towards the southern coast of Iran after attempting to “harm and disrupt Iran’s oil exports.”
Hezbollah claims to have targeted a military base in northern Israel. The pro-Iranian group stated that the base hit is located south of Nahariya. This attack comes a day after an Israeli strike in southern Beirut which killed a senior commander of the group.
Donald Trump insists the ceasefire is still in effect. The US president referred to the recent actions as insignificant, stating “They played with us today. We defeated them. They played. I call it a trifle” to journalists. These exchanges of fire occur as Washington awaits a response from Tehran to their latest proposal to end the war permanently.
