After Manchester City’s draw on Bournemouth’s field (1-1), Pep Guardiola was evasive about his future on the Cityzens’ bench. The Spaniard assures that a decision will be made at the end of the season.

Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, neither confirmed nor denied his departure at the end of the season, Tuesday after bidding farewell to the Premier League title, explaining the need to talk to his president before any announcement. “You understand that the first person I have to talk to is my president. Both of us, once the season is over, we will sit down and talk, it’s as simple as that, and then we will make a decision,” he replied on Sky Sports.

British press reports that the 55-year-old Spaniard has decided to leave Manchester City at the end of the current season, one year before his contract expires. “When we play the FA Cup, when we play the Premier League, I only have one thing in mind and as a goal: try to bring the team as high as possible,” he added to the British broadcaster’s microphone, which was asking him about the speculation surrounding his future.

His potential successor already identified

Manchester City played and won the FA Cup final on Saturday against Chelsea, and still had hopes of winning the Premier League title by beating Bournemouth on Tuesday. But Guardiola’s men only managed a draw (1-1). Arsenal is the English champion, a first since 2004, thanks to the four-point lead they have before the final matchday on Sunday.

Arriving at Manchester City in 2016, Guardiola won twenty titles in ten years, including six Premier League titles and one Champions League trophy. His club has already confirmed that a parade will take place on Monday, May 25th, to celebrate the “Cup” title and the victory of the women’s team in the championship. According to British media, City has already reached an agreement with his successor, Enzo Maresca, for a three-year contract.

The 46-year-old Italian was Guardiola’s assistant during the 2022-2023 season, the year of the triple championship win in the league, FA Cup, and Champions League. He then managed Leicester (2023-2024), securing promotion to the Premier League, before heading to Chelsea. At Chelsea, he won the Europa League and the Club World Cup in 2025, before leaving on January 1st after a crisis of results amid internal disagreements.
