A class up to their performance. It is in suits and gloves, bowties and moccasins on their feet that the players and leaders of AS Cannes were received at the town hall on Monday, May 18, 2026.

Welcomed by David Lisnard, the Dragons were celebrated as they should be, after their championship title and promotion to League 3, confirmed on Saturday night at Coubertin.

During a ceremony filled with emotion, despite a particularly busy schedule, the mayor took the time to acknowledge the club’s journey.

“If we wanted to welcome you here, during the Festival, it is really to express a mark of respect and recognition,” he said. “What we have experienced was really intense. I don’t know if you realize it, but we’ve been struggling for 25 years, maybe even more.”

Context: AS Cannes is a football club based in Cannes, France. Fact Check: The date May 18, 2026, mentioned in the article is in the future.

Mathieu Chabert in gold

A long desert journey that seems, finally, to be coming to an end. And this is notably achieved through the arrival, last October, of coach Mathieu Chabert.

For the occasion, the coach received the Gold Medal of the City of Cannes. “We managed to do it in seven months,” he reacted. “I congratulate the players, the staff, but also all the people who work at the club. To succeed, you need a group, and the group is the entire club. Congratulations to everyone and thank you again.”

Acknowledgments extended to the entire AS Cannes, as well as to Antoine Gobin, who arrived as general manager on October 22 last year and contributed to getting the club back on track.

“This is a magical moment that is only possible thanks to the work done by Mathieu Chabert, Djamal Mohamed (sports director), and their teams,” said the GM, his voice still hoarse from the scenes of joy on Saturday night. “But we must also thank the shareholder, the Friedkin family, who brought us all here in October. Without them, we wouldn’t be here today, and I believe that the club would not have been able to experience this. When the roles are clear, everything becomes simpler. We all work together, and it pays off.”

A collective effort, also led by Anny Courtade. Present at this reception, the president of the association, who has been involved with the club since 2016, also received a tribute from the mayor for her involvement in the renewal of AS Cannes.
