According to the stats, this season there are more goals per match in Ligue 1 than in the English Premier League, showing that the French league can also be exciting, despite being often mocked across the channel. Ligue 1 is frequently criticized for being the weakest and most boring of the five major leagues, earning the nickname “Farmer’s League” from the English. However, this year is proving to be different.
Opta, a British sports statistics company specializing in football, has revealed that Ligue 1 is the second most prolific of the five major leagues in 2025-2026, just before the end of the season. While the Bundesliga leads with an average of 3.22 goals per match, Ligue 1 follows closely behind with 2.84, ahead of the English Premier League (2.75), which is quite a surprise. The Spanish La Liga (2.71) and the Italian Serie A (2.40) are next in line.
This statistic highlights the exciting and uncertain 2025-2026 season of Ligue 1. PSG is on track for another championship title, but they must remain consistent as RC Lens is only six points behind. The competition for the podium is fierce between Lyon (3rd with 60 points), Lille (4th with 58 points), and Rennes (5th with 56 points). Monaco and Marseille are also close behind, ready to seize any opportunity.
