The leaders of Formula 1 have announced the return of the Turkish Grand Prix to the calendar starting in 2027, for a duration of five years.

Six years after the last edition, won by Valtteri Bottas in his Mercedes, the Turkish Grand Prix will make a comeback next season. The announcement was made this Friday by Formula 1 organizers, specifying that the Istanbul Park circuit will be part of the program for the next five years. “We are delighted to return to the incredible and dynamic city of Istanbul starting in 2027 to thrill all our fans in Turkey and around the world on one of the most exciting and demanding circuits in Formula 1,” said Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula 1. Istanbul, as a city, represents a cultural gateway between Europe and Asia, offering a unique blend of history and tradition with a forward-thinking approach to sport, business, and entertainment. I would like to thank His Excellency President Mr. Erdoğan, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, as well as the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation for their support which enabled the return of Formula 1. Istanbul Park circuit has been the stage of many memorable moments in the history of our sport and I am excited to start the next chapter of our partnership, offering fans the opportunity to experience even more incredible races in a truly fantastic venue.

The first seven editions of the Grand Prix took place from 2005 to 2011, with victories by Kimi Räikkönen, Felipe Massa (three times in a row), Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton, and Sebastian Vettel. The GP had then disappeared from the calendar, before returning in 2020, at short notice, during the coronavirus pandemic (victory of Lewis Hamilton). In the same health context, it replaced the Singapore GP in 2021. On this 5.3-kilometer circuit, Valtteri Bottas holds the lap record, with 1’30″432. It now remains to be seen at what point in the season the Turkish Grand Prix will take place, as it ran in May, June, August, October, and November during its initial editions.
