The new coach of Ghana, Carlos Queiroz, has expressed his ambition for the upcoming World Cup during his official presentation on Thursday.

Appointed as coach of Ghana after the dismissal of Otto Addo, Carlos Queiroz was introduced to the press of the country on Thursday following his arrival in Accra. “Football has offered me a whole life of challenges, learning, and unforgettable travels around the world. Today, I accept this mission with the same passion and commitment that has accompanied me throughout my career,” said the Portuguese technician, referring to “the greatest challenge” of his career: “because when you work for Ghana, nothing is expected other than winning, winning, winning.”

“We can beat anyone”

This was no longer the case with his predecessor, dismissed after four consecutive defeats in friendly matches, including a last-minute loss to Germany (2-1) on March 30. Ghana is a nation of talent, pride, and footballing spirit. I arrive with respect for its history and conviction in its future. Together, with unity, discipline, and ambition, we will work to honor the expectations of a great football nation,” continued the former assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson at MU, before concluding. If we play together, with the right mentality, we can beat any opponent in the world.”

A fifth World Cup for Queiroz… and Ghana

At the age of 73, Carlos Queiroz will participate for the fifth time in a World Cup finals, having been part of the party in 2010 with Portugal, and in 2014, 2018, and 2022 with Iran. This will allow him to equal the record of consecutive participations held by Serb Bora Milutinovic. Qualifying for the fifth time, and the second consecutive time, Ghana will compete in group I and face England, Croatia, as well as Panama, their first opponent on June 17 in Toronto, Canada.
