As Didier Deschamps is set to leave his position as the coach of the French national team, Luis Figo is not worried about him and believes he could succeed with a club in the future.
Leading the French national team since 2012, Didier Deschamps is preparing to step down at the end of the 2026 World Cup. While the direction of “DD’s” career remains unclear, he is expected to have plenty of suitors, especially if he achieves success with the French team in the coming weeks. With the likelihood of Real Madrid not retaining Alvaro Arbeloa, could the former midfielder succeed him?
While it is too early to tell, Deschamps appears to have strong support, even though his inner circle recently dismissed the rumors linking him to Real. At the Laureus Awards, the French coach received support from Luis Figo. “You French people should be very grateful for what Deschamps has achieved with the national team, and happy,” explained the Portuguese.
Figo: “He has the experience to succeed”
“Now, it will be a new stage, and with the quality you have, you could assemble two talented teams with incredible players. (…) A new stage will open up for him, but I believe that Deschamps has the experience and personality to succeed with a team,” stated the 2000 Ballon d’Or winner, as reported by RMC Sport. As for Arbeloa, he does not seem too worried about his future, as he is under contract until 2027.
“I’m not worried about my future, but about these seven matches, which are the only thing that matters right now. (…) But one thing is clear to me: we have an excellent squad. I don’t think a complete overhaul is necessary to compete for titles. We will fight to win again,” acknowledged the Real Madrid coach in a press conference on Monday. Stay tuned for updates.
