If the Nantaises saw their dreams of Europe diminish after their narrow defeat against PSG, the most important thing is to validate their ticket for the championship playoffs. “It’s really the primary goal,” declares Maureen Cosson. “The season is beautiful, successful. If we validate this access to the playoffs, it will be a first objective achieved. It’s important to do it as soon as Marseille. We would be safe, and the race will continue to secure the best position. Validating the playoffs would validate everything we have done well this season.” Because hopes of Europe are not extinguished in the mind of the captain of FC Nantes: “There are three matches left. In football, anything can happen. We’re not masters of our destiny anymore, but we’re not safe that PFC or PSG make a misstep. (Note: Paris FC plays Dijon and PSG plays Fleury, the 5th and 6th of the championship in the final round). We still keep it in the back of our mind. We must be perfect to seize the opportunity if one of these two teams loses.” Being perfect will involve getting a result against OL Lyonnes, whom the Canaries will host on April 25 at Marcel Saupin, a team against whom Nantaises have never taken points: “We know it will be difficult but it’s still a football match. We go there to take points, otherwise there’s no point in playing the match.”
