Due to an exceptional heat wave, dozens of sporting and cultural events have been postponed or canceled throughout France as a precaution. This is particularly the case of Brive-la-Gaillarde, in Corrèze, where the town hall decided to cancel the Music Festival.

With the heat records announced this weekend of June 20 and 21, should we cancel or maintain the music festival? In Essonne, in Chilly-Mazarin, the festivities will take place, at the cost of several restrictions. To cool down as much as possible, agents install several misters and the town hall has reduced the duration of the party. “We changed the schedules. […] We are on a Music Festival in a much shorter time than usual: 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. instead of 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.indicates Rafika Rezgui, mayor (PS) of Chilly-Mazarin.
Precautions appreciated by residents. Some will brave the heat, others will not risk it. “I would really like to go, but given the weather conditions, I am thinking of staying at home”confides a passerby. “Of course I’ll be there. I can’t miss it”shares another.
But everywhere in France, cancellations of festivities are reluctantly increasing. This is the case in Claye-Souilly, in Seine-et-Marne, and in certain towns in the west: no music festival in Thouars (Deux-Sèvres), in Teich (Gironde), or in Brive-la-Gaillarde, in Corrèze Last year, numerous concerts enlivened the streets of the city, but this time, with 40° forecast, the town hall is playing it safe. “For reasons of public health and to protect all participants, both municipal agents, the public, families, we have decided to cancel these events”justifies Frédéric Soulier, mayor (LR) of Brive-la-Gaillarde.
Several sporting events are also sacrificed: the cycling festival in Anjou, but also races and trails to avoid accidents. Thursday June 18, in Val-d’Oise, a 30-year-old man died on an athletics track.
