Heatwave: should we cancel the Music Festival? : News – Orange

It should be very hot for the Music Festival on June 21. Météo-France announces temperatures around 40°C locally on Sunday. And the mercury is not expected to drop enough to breathe once the sun sets. So, do you think we should cancel the Music Festival?

The French have celebrated every June 21 since the first edition of the Music Festival. The summer solstice is an opportunity to stroll through the streets of your city to the sound of different music groups. The weather is generally nice and warm, with the sun setting very late, which encourages partying all night long. But what to do if it’s too hot? Promiscuity, alcohol, dancing… everything is conducive to heat stroke or dehydration, especially if a heatwave alert is issued.

Such an alert is also very probable. Météo-France only informs of an alert situation the day before for the next day, or the same day. We therefore do not know if heat wave alerts will be issued. On the other hand, we know that 26 departments are placed on orange alert on Thursday June 18, and that the heat peak is expected on Sunday. Everything therefore suggests that several departments will be on orange or red alert for a heatwave on the day of the Music Festival.

Are cancellations possible?

However, such heat can have serious consequences on health. The risk is such that prefectures have the power to cancel gatherings in the event of red alert. For the moment, Deputy Minister Marie-Pierre Vedrenne has assured that no cancellation has been made and that the emergency services and Civil Protection will be mobilized. Last year, Tours and Brives gave up the festivities because of the heat.
